The Grace Gift of the Holy Spirit

Print

Everyone loves receiving gifts. A gift is something we receive even if we don’t deserve it; this is especially true about the gift of the Holy Spirit. When we get born again, God gives us the Holy Ghost out of His abundant love for us. Accepting Him and letting Him guide us every day gives us a tremendous advantage.

Life has many moving parts that we’ll never understand through our own intellectual knowledge. Without a supernatural unseen partner, we may miss some hidden knowledge from God. The Holy Spirit, whose mission is to lead, guide, comfort, and minister to us, is that partner. He teaches us all things and brings to remembrance what we’ve already learned in the Scriptures, to help us apply those lessons properly and as needed.

We’ve all experienced situations where we had no idea what to do to fix the problem. Thankfully we don’t have to try to figure things out by ourselves; we can ask God, who knows all things. Believers have access to knowledge and wisdom no one else has; praying in the Spirit unlocks that knowledge. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth that speaking in an unknown tongue allows a man to speak mysteries; praying this way allowed his spirit to pray directly to God while his understanding was unfruitful.

The Spirit helps us in our weaknesses by interceding for us when we don’t know how or what to pray as we should. Paul, the apostle of grace, regularly relied on Him for help in times of weakness; he told the believers at Corinth that he prayed in tongues more than anyone. We benefit from the same kind of help that comes from praying in tongues.

The Spirit’s responses to our questions are clear, specific, and detailed. This happened with the instructions God gave to Ananias and Paul after Paul met Jesus; it can also happen with us in our everyday lives. When we put our understanding on hold and simply trust the Holy Spirit, He takes us to a higher level.

Prayer:

God, the Holy Spirit helps us understand things we never could through our own understanding. He interprets things you tell us and guides us on our journey through life. Thank You for this gift of this help. In Jesus’ name, amen.
