The Gift of Spiritual Understanding

Print
We live in a world that’s afraid to trust in anything or anyone. Thankfully, as believers we can confidently place our trust in Jesus Christ, with no misgivings. Wholly trusting in Christ makes us recipients of God’s gifts, which we receive by faith; one of those gifts is a true understanding of the Scriptures. However, the enemy doesn’t want us to receive anything from God.

Because of Jesus’ finished works, we’re now free to receive directly from God instead of toiling endlessly to please Him, but most people are still spiritually blind to this. Satan blinds the minds of those who don’t believe, to prevent the light of the Gospel of Christ from shining unto them. Jesus came to free us from self-effort, bring us understanding, and open our spiritual eyes. Isaiah prophesied about Jesus preaching good tidings to the meek, proclaiming liberty to the captives, and opening the prison to those that were bound; Jesus fulfilled that prophecy and added His intent to bring about the recovery of sight to the blind.

The translation of the Hebrew phrase “opening the prison” means the opening of the eyes, physically as well as spiritually. Relying on the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the knowledge we need opens the door to wisdom higher and greater than what’s available in the world. Out of God’s mouth comes knowledge and understanding; godly wisdom is closely linked to understanding. It’s His will that we get wisdom, and that in all our getting we get understanding.

There are plenty of “gospels” preached all around the world, but Paul preached none other than the Gospel of Grace. This gospel plainly reveals to us the truth of what God says, minus all the religious double-talk. Revelation from Him is eye-opening and life-changing. Clearly seeing and understanding the truth will set us free.

Prayer:

Lord, when religion confuses us, Your Word cuts through the confusion and gives us clarity and understanding. Thank You for teaching us to trust in Jesus and in what He did to free us from our own efforts. In Jesus’ name, amen.
