The Gift of Spiritual Understanding

Print

Fully understanding something well enough to apply it to our situation eliminates confusion and gives us clarity. Wholly trusting in Jesus Christ makes us recipients of God’s gifts that we receive by faith; one of those gifts is a complete, grace-based understanding of the Scriptures. However, the enemy does his best to get us to doubt what the Bible says because he doesn’t want us to receive anything from God. Satan blinds the minds of those who don’t believe, in order to prevent the light of the Gospel of Grace from shining unto them.

No longer do we have to toil endlessly to please God like the people did under the Law of Moses; because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we’re now free to receive favor directly from God. People who are still spiritually blind to this truth are in bondage to their self-effort because they think their own performance is necessary. Isaiah prophesied about Jesus preaching good tidings to the meek, proclaiming liberty to the captives, and opening the prison to those that were bound. Jesus fulfilled that prophecy, and added His intent to bring about the recovery of sight to the blind.

The translation of the Hebrew phrase “opening the prison” means the opening of the eyes, physically as well as spiritually. Understanding that comes from God opens our spiritual eyes in ways religion never can. Relying on the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the knowledge we need puts us in touch with wisdom higher and greater than what is available in the world. Out of God’s mouth comes knowledge and understanding; when we get godly wisdom, we also get understanding.

There are plenty of “gospels” preached all around the world, but Paul preached none other than the Gospel of Grace. This gospel plainly reveals to us the truth of what God says, minus any religious double-talk. Revelation from God is eye-opening and life-changing. Clearly seeing and understanding the truth sets us free.

Prayer:

Lord, when religion confuses us, Your Word brings us understanding. Trusting in Jesus and in what He did on the cross gives us spiritual vision the world doesn’t have. We thank You for that. In Jesus’ name, amen.
