The Authority Given to the Believer

Print

Life is full of uncertainties. The only guarantee we have is that life always has the potential to throw us a curve ball when we least expect it. However, as believers, we have a major advantage the world doesn’t have. When others struggle to cope with circumstances and bad situations, we have authority over them.

Authority is defined as the right to give orders and enforce obedience. This was given to us by God, Himself. During His earthly ministry, Jesus gave His disciples power and authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out, and cure all kinds of disease and weakness. Believing this gives us power over serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing can hurt us.

We have this authority because of God’s favor toward us. When the devil throws obstacles in our path to hold us back from moving forward in life, we have the ability to move those obstacles aside and continue on our Christian walk. However, we can only do this when we’re connected to Christ through a personal relationship with Him. He’s the vine and we’re the branches; apart from Him, we can do nothing.

A situation that appears to have no solution can seem like an immovable mountain. Where most people think they have no control over the mountains in their lives, Christians have confidence that we’ve been authorized to order those mountains out of the way, and they must obey us. If we have faith and refuse to let doubt get in the way, we can speak to our mountains and tell them to be cast into the sea, and it will happen.

This power extended toward those who believe is exceedingly great. It’s a byproduct of God’s covenant that He’ll never revoke. With the kind of authority that we can walk in, there’s no stopping us.

Prayer:

Lord, as Your children we’ve been empowered to stand out from the world in an unmistakable way that commands attention. When others are defeated by situations, You’ve given us the power to win in life. We’re grateful for that. In Jesus’ name, amen.
