Supernatural Healing for Broken Relationships

Print
God has blessed us with many good gifts, not the least of which are relationships. Having a good relationship with someone adds joy to our lives; conversely, a stormy relationship full of criticism and arguments is emotionally painful. The key to restoration here is letting God’s favor infuse our friendships and marriages. An understanding of the grace-based relationships that He wants for us gives us an advantage over what we see in the world.

A critical spirit is deadly to a relationship. We avoid it by building our friendships and marriages on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Marriages should be friendships, too; Christians become good friends with others through a friendship with God and His Word, first. Jesus, who laid down His life for His friends, tells us that we’re His friends when we obey His commandment to love others.

This love is especially important in the midst of an argument, when we’re tempted to criticize the other person. We’re instructed instead to forgive others and avoid holding grudges; how we handle ourselves can prevent a minor disagreement from blowing up into bickering and division. We’re cautioned to avoid getting involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights, but instead to be kind and patient. God is very clear here; hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins.

Maintaining godly relationships requires a mindset of lowliness and gentleness, to keep the unity of the Sprit in the bond of peace. We protect our friendships, and keep them whole and intact, by approaching each one with the mind of Christ. Thinking like Him helps us apply His teachings on a personal level. In this way, we allow His love to flow through not only us, but also those around us.

Prayer:

Lord, healthy relationships free of the spirit of criticism are built on the foundation of Your Word. Godly friendships are a powerful testimony in today’s broken world. Thank You for teaching us how to succeed in this area. In Jesus’ name, amen.
