FOR THE WEEK OF October 23, 2017

Righteous by Faith

Print

Jesus Christ has made us righteous by His grace, but the enemy is constantly coming against us trying to get us to doubt our righteousness. We fight back by steadfastly trusting in what Jesus did for us. The question Satan tries to bring up in our minds was permanently settled when Christ went to the cross to take away our sin.

We’re the righteousness of God, not by anything we do, but by faith in Jesus’ finished works. Even though He hated sin, He became sin on our behalf because of His love for us, and because of His goodness. This goodness is available to us right now, but we must believe it to receive it. Even in the midst of going through a situation, thanking God for His goodness puts us in a position to lay hold of it.

Thanking and praising Him for things we don’t even see yet builds our faith, and it makes our worship that much more powerful. Our righteousness is because of God’s goodness and mercy. Like Abraham, we’re righteous because we lean on and rely on Christ, not on ourselves. Christianity isn’t about doing right, but about believing right.

Because we’re in Christ, sin will not be imputed to us, but righteousness will. This means that no matter how many times we miss the mark or how bad our mistakes seem to us, our sins will never be charged to our account. We are a forgiven people, and we’re as pure and holy as Jesus. Refusing to be moved from the knowledge of who we are in Him gives us the edge in maintaining the victory in the spiritual war Jesus has already won.

Prayer:

God, without Your Word to remind us of who we are in You, we would be struggling and lost. We’re righteous not by anything we do, but by what Your Son already did. Thank You for making us righteous. In Jesus’ name, amen.
