Restored Peace between Our Loved Ones

Print
We’ve all experienced the joy that good relationships bring us. Everything smoothly operating in a friendship the way it should enriches our lives. However, many of us have also experienced the opposite when we found ourselves in a relationship marked by constant criticism and division. This is destructive and isn’t God’s will for us, which is why it’s so important to know what He says about this part of our lives.

The pain of a broken relationship originated with Adam and Eve when Satan destroyed the relationship they had with God and with each other, and stole what God gave them; he’s been at it ever since. Whether from playing the “blame game” or letting a critical spirit drive two people apart, applying God’s Word to the situation brings restoration to a demoralizing, miserable relationship. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy; but Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly. The Word heals our relationships and restores our joy.

On a practical level, who we spend time with affects us profoundly; this includes the quality of our relationships. Hanging out with the wrong people has a negative influence on us. The righteous should choose his friends carefully because the way of the wicked leads them astray. We mustn’t be deceived; evil company corrupts good habits.

When our “friends” don’t have our best interest at heart, the resulting bickering, bitter quarrels, and anger tear people apart. One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin. The people around us must therefore make Jesus their first priority. Seeking out godly friends who make friends with Him, first, allows His favor to teach us how to be better friends; in this way, grace guides us in our relationships and keeps them whole and intact.

Prayer:

God, we live in an environment in which the enemy has destroyed countless relationships. You want much more for us than that. Agreeing with Your Word and letting it influence our friendships protects and strengthens them; we’re thankful for this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
