If you’ve ever felt the frustration of being held back from doing something you knew you could succeed at, you’re not alone. The world has become accustomed to living with inequality based on gender, but this isn’t God’s will for us. In the beginning when God created the earth, He made Adam and Eve to live side by side, as equals. He formed both the male and the female in His image and gave them dominion over everything in the sea, in the air, and in the earth.
God regarded the man and the woman He had created, and declared it not just good, but very good. They had the perfect relationship, but everything changed when sin entered the garden of Eden. The resulting curses included male domination, female subordination, and enmity between the genders.
However, God refused to let this inequality remain; He sent Jesus to restore what the enemy stole. Jesus became our peace through His death and resurrection and broke down the middle wall of partition separating men and women. Through His favor toward us, He brought a divided mankind back together again and made peace. Now, both men and women have access by one Spirit to God.
Jesus restored humanity back to the Father’s original plan that was in place before the fall of Adam and Eve. If we’re in Christ, there’s no partiality with God, because faith in Christ makes us all God’s children. There are no more distinctions between Jew and Greek, bond or free, male or female; we’re all one in Christ.
The covenant of grace that Jesus established destroyed unequal submission. Instead, husbands and wives are to submit to each other equally, one to another, in the fear of God. Because of His grace in the form of Jesus Christ, equal opportunity for everyone has been extended and equal footing has been re-established.
Lord, You were determined to set things right after Adam and Eve’s sin resulted in oppression and inequality. Your Son gave His life to rectify the situation, and now everyone can benefit equally from His finished works. Thank You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
