“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for ‘love will cover a multitude of sins’” (1 Peter 4:8, NKJV).

The kind of love God expects of His children is not a feeling, but a decision. Letting His love flow through us empowers us to love others even when they say and do unlovable things.

“And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?...” (Matthew 8:26).

Faith can result in miracles, but we need to consistently apply it for it to work. Instead of a short burst of faith that doesn’t last long, we must keep it working and not bring it in from the field until we see the results we want.

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

We all make mistakes and fall short from time to time; Jesus went to the cross to make the Father’s mercy and forgiveness available to us at times like these. We don’t have to be afraid to ask God for help; He’s eagerly waiting to give it in abundance.

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Grace is God’s unearned, undeserved favor. The times when we’re at our weakest and most vulnerable, and don’t think we deserve anything good, are the times when God can make His presence known.

“That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world” (Ephesians 2:12).

Living without God’s guidance and direction is a hopeless journey with a less-than-promising destination. However, accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior redirects our lives in a positive new direction and gives us hope.

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” (John 6:35).

Each of us was created with an empty space in us that can only be filled through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The world offers us momentary flashy distractions, but can never give us the kind of life that God can.

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” (Joshua 1:8, NLT).

The Bible is not only the Word of God, but our instruction manual on how to live successful, prosperous lives. Real success and prosperity come from God, not from our own self-efforts.

“But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it” (Romans 8:25).

Sometimes we run ahead of God, impatiently trying to speed up what we think He’s doing in our lives, instead of waiting on Him. However, patience is a godly trait and a fruit of the Spirit; practicing it aids us in our spiritual growth.

“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith...” (Hebrews 12:2, NIV).

When we focus on Jesus to the exclusion of all worldly distractions, He becomes the guiding light on our Christian walk and will always lead us down the right path in life. Fixing our gaze on Him also strengthens our faith and gives us encouragement.

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined” (Isaiah 9:2).

Without Jesus, the world is a dark and sad place. When we get born again and accept Him as our Lord and Savior, He brings joy and light into our lives that will never leave us.

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:28, NIV).

When we got born again and became children of God, the kingdom of heaven, which cannot be shaken, became our final destination. Therefore, we cannot be shaken when we believe this.

We find peace of mind and peace in our hearts by focusing on Jesus instead of the world’s drama and worries. God did not create us to live in stress.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

Life is not a sprint, but a marathon. What’s important to God is not a quick burst of faith that fizzles out, but perseverance in our faith until the very end.

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22).

There are plenty of things we can have faith in, but not all of them are trustworthy. When all else fails us, Jesus Christ is the only one we can confidently rely on to be there when we need help.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105).

We live in a dark world, and we will become hopelessly lost if we try to find our way using our own limited knowledge and understanding. The only way to see what’s going on around us and which path we should take is to navigate using God’s Word.

“For with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37).

We must be careful not to buy into the world’s way of thinking, which limits us and constantly tells us what we can’t do and what’s impossible. No limitations exist with God; the possibilities are endless.

“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7).

In a world that screams that image and appearance are everything, walking by faith and not by sight is easier said than done. However, we have God’s promise that He will reward the faithful.

“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment…” (Romans 5:3-5, NLT).

We’re bound to encounter trouble in life, but how we handle it determines the level of our spiritual growth. God will never leave us in difficult times; leaning on Him as we continue to move forward helps us mature as Christians.

“Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful” (James 5:11, NKJV).

When we experience tough times—and everyone does from time to time—we mustn’t give up, cave in, or quit. Persevering and continuing to push forward in the midst of adversity makes us stronger; God rewards such individuals.

“This is the LORD’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes” (Psalm 118:23).

There’s much in life we can’t control through our own efforts; however, faith in God and His goodness is a game-changer. When we experience a breakthrough that we know we had nothing to do with, we simply need to give Him the glory.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5).

We can’t experience any real success in life through our own efforts, apart from God. He is the one who causes good things to happen that we could never make happen on our own.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace” (Romans 6:14).

Getting born again frees us from the bad habits and sins that keep the world in bondage. Accepting Jesus, who is grace personified, moves us out from under the law of useless self-effort and into God’s unearned favor.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, NLT).

We’ve all had times when we realized we were woefully inadequate to complete the task ahead of us. On our own, we’ll never be enough; only with God’s help can we succeed.

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him” (James 1:12).

To be blessed is to be empowered to succeed. When we resist worldly influences and refuse to cave in and quit on our spiritual journey, we will experience success.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).

It’s impossible for us to live on a daily basis and not have our faith challenged. However, resisting those challenges and standing firm on what we know to be true about the finished works of Jesus Christ makes our faith stronger.

“We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8, 9).

On our Christian walk, we can expect trouble from time to time; that’s part of life. However, when it does show up, God will never let it completely destroy us.

“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee” (Psalm 56:3).

When we’re afraid, it can be hard to trust anyone; as humans, we have a tendency to go into self-preservation mode. This is the very time to make a conscious decision to trust God.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

When things happen, we must resist the external pressure to try to understand all the details with our limited intellectual minds. When we don’t know what to do or how to respond to a situation, trusting God allows Him to walk us through the issue.

“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (James 4:10).

It’s not easy walking in humility in a world that encourages pride, but God promises to reward those who do. Living a humble lifestyle according to His Word sets us apart and elevates us as believers.
