“Jesus said, ‘If God were your father, you would love me, for I came from God and arrived here. I didn’t come on my own. He sent me. Why can’t you understand one word I say? Here’s why: You can’t handle it’” (John 8:42, 43, MSG).
Jesus confronting the religious leaders revealed their inability to understand Him; this stems from spiritual blindness. Their rejection of truth showed they weren’t aligned with God’s heart or voice.
“These are all warning markers—danger!—in our history books, written down so that we don’t repeat their mistakes. Our positions in the story are parallel—they at the beginning, we at the end—and we are just as capable of messing it up as they were” (1 Corinthians 10:11, MSG).
The failures of Israel were recorded as warnings for us today. We must remain vigilant and humble, knowing we’re just as capable of falling if we ignore God’s guidance.
