Daily Devotionals - January 2025

31Jan

January 31

“The word of the LORD came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ ‘Alas, Sovereign LORD,’ I said, ‘I do not know how to speak; I am too young.’ But the LORD said to me, ‘Do not say, “I am too young.” You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the LORD” (Jeremiah 1:4-8, NIV).

Regardless of our age or who we are, God loved us even before we were born. He has a calling for each of us, and we mustn’t be afraid to embrace and accept that call. When we go where He sends us and say what He tells us, He’ll protect and deliver us.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men (Colossians 3:23).

Always doing our best is a commandment directly from God. Sometimes we see people doing a half-hearted job and putting no effort into the task. As Christians working and living alongside others who may not be believers, this is one way we stand out from the crowd.
29Jan

January 29

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10:36, NIV).

Perseverance is a godly trait that many people lack. Putting forth our best in everything we do, and refusing to give up when life gets tough, are both important qualities to develop. This mindset is critical when we encounter challenges on our Christian walk.

January 28

“Do nothing from factional motives [through contentiousness, strife, selfishness, or for unworthy ends] or prompted by conceit and empty arrogance. Instead, in the true spirit of humility (lowliness of mind) let each regard the others as better than and superior to himself [thinking more highly of one another than you do of yourselves]. Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not [merely] his own interests, but also each for the interests of others. Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [let Him be your example in humility]” (Philippians 2:3-5, AMPC).

Jesus was the humble servant, yet was also God in human form. He could have held Himself in high esteem, but chose not to. When it came to relating to others, He embodied everything that we should aim to do in our relationships; He’s our perfect example.
27Jan

January 27

Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, and do not stand in the place of the great; for it is better that he say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom your eyes have seen (Proverbs 25:6, 7, NKJV)

Considering ourselves as better than others sets ourselves up for a fall. An “I am the greatest” attitude goes against the biblical teachings of putting others first. Putting ourselves last allows God to exalt us.
26Jan

January 26

“Diverse weights [one for buying and another for selling] and diverse measures—both of them are exceedingly offensive and abhorrent to the LORD” (Proverbs 20:10, AMPC).

This can apply to how we do business as well as to how we relate to others. In a business sense, God sees the use of two different sets of measurements as dishonest and just plain wrong. In relationships, holding others to a different set of moral standards than what we follow can be viewed as hypocrisy and operating by a double standard.
25Jan

January 25

He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding (Proverbs 17:27, 28).

Sometimes we do more harm than good by speaking without thinking first; the truly wise person knows when to refrain from saying anything. Words are powerful and can’t be taken back once they’re uttered. In a touchy situation, they add fuel to the fire.
24Jan

January 24

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud (Proverbs 16:18, 19).

A humble attitude pleases God. We live in an environment that exalts pride and self-centeredness; we therefore must beware of ungodly mindsets.
23Jan

January 23

Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established” (Proverbs 15:22, NKJV).

Seeking quality input before we begin something is the key to well-informed conclusions. Wise leaders never make decisions in a vacuum, but instead surround themselves with knowledgeable experts. This is true at any level of leadership.
22Jan

January 22

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures (James 4:3, NIV).

God wants to grant our requests when we pray, but only if we ask with the proper motivation and without selfish intent. He honors our prayers when we put others first the way He tells us to.
21Jan

January 21

The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray
(Proverbs 12:26, NKJV).

The people we socialize with and spend time with are the ones whose morals and values ultimately affect us. This is a lesson we teach our children, but this Scripture is something adults should also remember.
20Jan

January 20

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek(Hebrews 5:9, 10, NKJV).

Jesus was fully human just like us, yet was perfected through His obedience to God. This gives us hope that we, too, can be perfected through Jesus when we obey His Word.
19Jan

January 19

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord(Isaiah 54:17).

Violence can happen with no warning and at any time, but those who depend upon the Almighty for protection have nothing to fear. Trusting in God’s Word keeps us in perfect safety; He won’t allow any harm to come to us.
18Jan

January 18

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths(Proverbs 3:5, 6, AMPC).

Charting our own course through life and depending on our own plans to get us through leaves us open to making mistakes and bad decisions. Wise individuals rely on God’s insights and understanding to lead them past the pitfalls and traps.
17Jan

January 17

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5, NKJV).

When we trust our lives to God and become rooted and grounded in Him, no one can shake us from our firm foundation. God’s children today inherit the same promises He made to Moses and Joshua.
16Jan

January 16

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

God knows what we need to succeed and thrive in life, and He asks us to look to Him to provide all of it. Putting Him first over all other earthly things positions us to receive what we pray for.
15Jan

January 15

Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor will increase(Proverbs 13:11, NKJV).

The mindset some people have—one of greed and lust for money—has been around since the beginning of time. The behavior of the dishonest tax collectors in the Bible can be seen in many businesses and corporations today. In these end times, we’re seeing this verse come to pass.
14Jan

January 14

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8, NKJV).

The world and all its prevailing philosophies change every so often; this can be unsettling and confusing to us. We find direction, stability, and firm footing in Jesus Christ; the truths we find in Him remain true forever.
13Jan

January 13

For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?” (2 Samuel 22:32, NKJV).

When we consider something as large and immovable as a boulder, it’s hard to imagine anything more solid; however, Jesus—also referred to as the Rock—is stronger. Over time, earthly rocks can move and get worn down by weather, but God never shifts or changes. This means that His promises are eternal and permanent.
12Jan

January 12

Happy (blessed, fortunate, enviable) is the man who finds skillful and godly Wisdom, and the man who gets understanding [drawing it forth from God’s Word and life’s experiences], for the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, and the profit of it better than fine gold(Proverbs 3:13, 14, AMPC).

We all know people who never learn from their mistakes, but the wisdom to learn valuable lessons from life experiences comes from God. Receiving the gift of divine wisdom is infinitely better than any earthly knowledge we try to acquire on our own
11Jan

January 11

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: for they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck(Proverbs 1:8, 9).

Living a godly life begins early; when children learn obedience, respect, and discipline, they’re off to a great start. God promises to honor those who honor their parents and others placed in authority over them.
10Jan

January 10

There are those who curse their fathers and do not bless their mothers… The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures(Proverbs 30:11, 17, NIV).

Children who learn to respect and honor their parents aren’t only pleasing to others, they’re also pleasing to God. Disrespectful and out of control young people are an abomination to Him; He’ll deal with them accordingly.

January 9

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2, NKJV).

Whether we’re in school, at work, or in a public place, we must be ready to testify about Jesus, who is the Word made flesh. The Holy Spirit emboldens us and gives us the courage to speak as we’re instructed to do, regardless of the consequences.
08Jan

January 8

And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.  He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned(Mark 16:15, 16).

The world tells us to keep quiet about the Good News of the Gospel of Grace, but Jesus Himself tells us to preach it everywhere. As His representatives, we have a responsibility to do this. Everyone needs the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not to accept Him.
07Jan

January 7

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).

God’s Word fits all occasions and circumstances, and should be used as a model for how to think, act, and conduct our everyday affairs. It’s our instruction manual for life.
06Jan

January 6

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

Prayer is direct conversation with God that we can have when we confidently come before Him. Religion would have us cowering before God and begging for blessings and favor when we pray, but grace has already made them available to us. We have the blood-bought right to approach Him.Prayer is direct conversation with God that we can have when we confidently come before Him. Religion would have us cowering before God and begging for blessings and favor when we pray, but grace has already made them available to us. We have the blood-bought right to approach Him.
05Jan

January 5

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12, NKJV).

God’s Word has a way of cutting to the chase and getting right to the heart of the matter. It sees right through us and exposes our true motives, both good and bad. There’s no hiding from Him.
04Jan

January 4

There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His (Hebrews 4:9, 10, NKJV).

Unlike the unsaved, believers can rest from laboring through their own efforts to earn what Jesus has already accomplished. It’s a relief knowing that we don’t have to depend on ourselves for everything we need in life. By faith, His finished works have made it all available to us.
03Jan

January 3

I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place” (Psalm 118:5).

Life seems to have plenty of opportunities for trouble and distress, but God is always willing to come to our rescue. When we feel trapped and hemmed in by a situation, we can go to Him in prayer, ask for His help, and He’ll deliver us.
02Jan

January 2

We love him, because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

God is the very essence of love, which is His nature. Because of this, everything He does is motivated by His love for us. God loved us and knew us by name even before we were born; when we accept Him, He chooses to make us His children.
01Jan

January 1

Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be(Job 8:7, NIV).

As we make our New Year’s resolutions and anticipate the year ahead, we have joy and encouragement in God’s promise of prosperity in every area of our lives. There’s no fear of the future for God’s children who live in Christ.
