God’s grace is the most effective teacher we could ever have. In a world that exalts self-effort, grace teaches us how to be humble so that God can exalt us. His favor teaches us not to shy away from the painful things that happen, because going through these experiences matures us. Genuinely trusting and depending on God the way we should eventually shows in our speech and in everything we do. The deep-seated desire we all have to feel important can lead to exalting ourselves; humility teaches us to get out of the center and put God there, instead. Paul received God’s mercy and forgiveness despite his past; the same grace has been extended to us. Knowing that we hold the same power and authority as Jesus Christ enables us to embrace the same humble attitude that He had.
