Scientists are fascinated by things like the forces of cause and effect in nature and the chemical and physical properties of matter in its solid state, but science only goes so far. Scientists have already admitted that some things even they can’t explain, such as an existence of an afterlife and the power of the mind. Many of them reject outright spiritual truths like righteousness and salvation, but these are just as real as rocks, trees, and a science lab full of test tubes. The scientific definition of a solid is something firm and stable in shape, but when we stand solid in God’s righteousness, nothing can move us.

The prevalent mindset is that if we’re clever, strong, smart, or socially connected enough, we can get ahead and win according to the world’s standards. But sin is just as real as anything we can physically touch, and relying on our own ability to escape it leaves us woefully unprotected. Sin is out there waiting for us, but when we accept by faith what Jesus did for us, we’re made righteous.

One of the benefits of this righteousness includes a divine family connection and the right to be a member of God’s family. “If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him” (1 John 2:29). Not only are we welcomed into the family, God makes us His own children. “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous” (1 John 3:7). When we can call God our Father, there’s nothing more solid than that. It’s like standing on solid bedrock when the rest of the world is trying to walk on soft sand.

Another benefit is that the Spirit of God will come to live in us and make us His holy temple. Whatever we did in the past doesn’t matter—He accepts us because we accepted His Son. With God living in us, we just don’t want to sin any more like we used to. “Those born from God don’t practice sin because God’s DNA remains in them. They can’t sin because they are born from God” (1 John 3:9, CEB).

When we look around us we see a broken and frightened world, and so far, science hasn’t been able to fix that. There is no peace, but when we accept the righteousness God offers us, we find peace of mind in the midst of strife. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7). Here are some other benefits of standing solid in righteousness as well:

• Divine protection
• Eternal life
• Healing and wholeness
• Joy and happiness
• Mercy and forgiveness
• Prosperity and abundance
• Salvation and victory

We receive all this if we can just accept the simplicity of His message of love. The sad thing is that many people can’t, or won’t, accept it. When we’re made righteous through God, the victory we experience includes the ability to rule over sin in our everyday lives. But this will seem like nonsense to the world (1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 4:3). 

We can’t save ourselves from the destructive, deadly influence of sin, or depend on our own righteousness. We need Jesus to intercede on our behalf. It’s time to realize that we have a right to embrace His promises for our lives.
