Atlanta’s Autumn Blessings: WCCI’s 2023 Fall Festival

“Joy.”

“Family-oriented.”

“Safe.”

“Unforgettable.”

These are just a few words used to describe the 2023 Fall Festival hosted by World Changers Church International. The annual festival remains beloved by previous attendees; it has even managed to be a trademark for generations of families. Those who experience it for the first time vow to return, particularly for the unique aspects like intimacy over excess, which sets it apart from other fall festivals. In summary, the Fall Festival seeks to provide a chance for family-oriented fun that prioritizes safety. Costumes are encouraged, and fun is not optional! Not only did God bless attendees with a warm day this year, but a warm atmosphere as well.

There is an unfortunate lack of family-friendly events in the surrounding area. County events are often overcrowded, and just last year, WSB-TV reported that parents in the Metro Atlanta area discovered sewing needles in their children’s Halloween candy, as confirmed by the police. This may not be a rampant problem, but families have been impacted by this report, nonetheless. For this reason, WCCI’s event has accomplished something great: combining joy and peace of mind.

“This event has taken a holiday that may seem negative and turned it into a positive,” one parent remarked as her small attendee squealed happily from inside a large bouncy house. She soon added, “Whatever . . . [WCCI is] having, we’re here.” This parent also attended the 2023 Back 2 School Event and voiced appreciation for the different ways WCCI invests in the community.

The event and parking are both free, which means the only cost to attendees are some of the food trucks and booths. The festival began around 11:00 a.m. that Saturday morning, but even before this time, people were lined up to gain entry. Great measures were taken to ensure that everything progressed smoothly.

Miss H. confirms that this feature of the outreach event is her favorite. “It’s not over-the-top . . . [we’re] not on top of each other. [It’s] always done well [and] organized.” After all, she admits that it “doesn’t take much” for kids to be pleased, and yet, WCCI makes sure to offer plenty. Her kids remember it every single year, which prompts her to continue attending. The candy, bouncy houses, and other activities cause it to stick out in her children’s minds. After all, unlike traditional festivals, tickets aren’t required to enjoy the games or activities like laser tag. This also helps minimize stress for parents, guardians, and grandparents alike. For this reason, many attendees arrived with several children from different households.

WCCI’s Fall Festival also stands out as unique due to its commitment to inclusivity. Physically disabled attendees are able to avoid the traditional issues of outdoor festivities (such as uneven terrain, overcrowding, and disorganization), and the safe atmosphere allows attendees like Ms. C, who is deaf, to easily navigate the grounds with her four-year-old son. Ms. C’s favorite part of this event is that her son can genuinely enjoy himself without worrying about unnecessary hassle.

Four inflatables, a pony ride, balloon sculpting, craft tables, a Kiddie zone, carnival games . . . these and more contributed to the thrilling atmosphere. With the sun sitting gently on their shoulders, children—from infants to teenagers—were able to appreciate the simple pleasures of community and being young. Most attendees who had arrived near the start of the festival were still in attendance towards the end of it.

Young attendees were also enthusiastic for the opportunity to talk about the festival. After all, for the first time in many of their lives, they were given a chance to ride a horse, which is a thrilling and new experience not traditionally available to children who live in non-rural areas. One family stated that even though they lived quite far away, they had gladly made the trip to attend the festival. A young parent viewed the festival as a family tradition that had survived one generation and would eventually make a positive impact on another.

When people hear the word “outreach,” they might be quick to imagine food kitchens or traveling revivals. These are, of course, important and have their place, but community outreach events like the Fall Festival also have a significant impact. It was apparent to many festivalgoers that in addition to offering a safe environment and opportunities for fun, this event displayed to kids the alternatives available to them when it came to a holiday that presented risks and bad connotations.

“Exciting.”

“Big.”

“Eventful.”

“A blessing.”

World Changers Church International’s 2023 Fall Festival was truly a success. The main purpose of holidays should always be to uplift each other as we strive to do our everyday task of honoring the Lord. For this reason, volunteers also set up a prayer booth to meet the spiritual needs of attendees as well. WCCI would like to thank attendees for having a good time with us. As always, we greatly appreciate our partners and volunteers for your continued support, love, and prayer. Happy autumn!
