Mirroring God’s Character

Print

As godly people, we’re called to reflect the same godly character as Jesus Christ. This is what sets believers apart from the world. However, if we’re struggling to succeed in life, it may be because of character flaws that God wants to burn out of us. Accepting the Holy Spirit’s help in this area allows Him to develop the same characteristics as God.

Change is a gradual process. It begins with a conscious decision to let the Holy Ghost work in us to strengthen our faith in God’s love. As our faith grows, we become able to produce spiritual fruit on the inside that eventually becomes visible on the outside. This fruit includes love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faithfulness, and self-control.

Getting born again is the most important thing we could ever do in our lives. It allows Jesus Christ to work in us to bring out our best selves and remake us into something beautiful. Like a master gardener, He works with the branches in Him that don’t bear fruit, and prunes the ones that do so that they produce even more.

A change of character involves rejecting our old, sinful desires, to the point where we want to please God and not just ourselves. This is impossible without the Spirit’s involvement. God will work in us, giving us the desire and the power do to what pleases Him.

Learning to think like God so that we want the same things that He wants transforms us. Transformation occurs by studying the Scriptures and meditating on them; this brings us into His presence so we can spend time with Him. He doesn’t want us to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This is how He reveals His perfect will for our lives.

We must never underestimate the transformative power of the Gospel of Grace. We can’t stay the same when we behold Jesus through His Word. This transfigures us into His very own image.

Prayer:

Lord, letting the world around us shape our thinking isn’t Your will. The awesome life You want for us begins by letting You transform the way we think so that we can have the same mindset as You. Thank You for giving us Your Word to do this. In Jesus’ name, amen.
