The Greatest Power: A Testimony in a Song

by Creflo Dollar | 31 Aug 2023

What have you encountered lately? On  July 14th of this year, a mere week after an MRI confirmed I no longer had cancer, I premiered a single titled “Greatest Power” featuring Lasha’ Knox. For two and a half years, I felt like Job (who had lost everything) due to attacks on my physical body (Job 1:13-19, NIV). You know how we are; as I received diagnosis after diagnosis for nearly three years, I thought, “What is going on? What have I done wrong, God?” However, at the height of my illness, I realized the purpose behind my physical suffering and encountered the Greatest Power.

On the second day of the 2023 GraceLife Conference, I performed “Greatest Power” after revealing the details concerning my physical battle. I was thrilled to share what had occurred when John 9:1 played out in my life. “Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him” (John 9:1-3, NKJV). Through my sickness, God’s power had been revealed.

In 2021, I got a terrible case of COVID, which caused micro-blood clots to surround my lungs. My wife was forced to wonder if she’d be a widow. She suggested we go to the hospital at one point, but I felt that if I went to the hospital, I would not come out. God delivered me from that illness; however, two weeks after receiving that news, I was hit with shingles.

In Second Corinthians 12:8, Paul asked God to remove a physical impairment from his body three times. In the midst of this trial, I wanted Paul’s faith; God never did remove the trial from him, instead responding, “My grace is sufficient for you” (2 Corinthians 12:9). I wanted to understand what that meant. I wanted to understand what that looked like. And experiencing the Greatest Power, I would!

I will not complain about my struggle with shingles or go into detail about it, but I got there. Yes, I trusted God, and I knew everything was in His hands, but I wondered what I wasn’t doing right. Was there something I wasn’t aware of?  The doctor said my condition formed a perfect pattern, from my spine to under my arm to my sternum. The boils came, which I was expecting, but what I wasn’t expecting was the attack on my nervous system. I remember counting the seconds as the pain went from my back to my brain. I prayed, “I believe in healing; I believe in You. What is going on?”

Despite these human moments, I resolved to put on a big shirt to hide my shrinking body. I kept traveling and preaching. Although my skin mostly cleared up, the illness left behind some nerve damage. On top of this, I was diagnosed with cancer and told I had three tumors. During this time, my wife was so, so encouraging. I bought more form-fitting clothes to dissuade my congregation from asking after me and went to all of my treatments. When the treatment looked like it was working, I stopped for one week and everything in my body immediately returned to what it was before. I remember apologizing to my youngest daughter because she had never seen me this ill.

Again, I ask you, what have you encountered lately? Has it been sickness? Financial burdens? Family issues and trauma? I am writing to let you know that you have access to the Greatest Power. If you can’t sleep at night, if you’re full of worry or doubt, take comfort in the fact that God is working behind the scenes.

While I was encountering this trial of illness, God spoke to a friend of mine, Pastor John, in his dreams and instructed him to write a song titled “Greatest Power.” It turned out to be about exactly what I was going through! At the same time, God spoke to me, saying, “There’s a man you met twelve years ago. Call him.” Due to this interaction, I underwent a new procedure that contributed to me being cancer-free. Regarding my spirit-man, God revealed He had been orchestrating my healing from behind the scenes despite relapses of doubt and fear during my human moments.

I encourage you to share this testimony with those you love and include “Greatest Power” in your daily worship as a reminder that, in spite of what you encounter, God is always there with you!
