Believing in What Christ Did for Us

No matter who we are, the shedding of blood has always held special significance. Its ability to give life is universally recognized, and one of the most horrifying things for many of us is the thought of bleeding to death. In light of this, the implications of Christ willingly going to the cross to bleed and die because of His love for us are huge. Faith in what He accomplished with this sacrifice helps us overcome any and all obstacles we encounter on our Christian walk.

Life will never be perfect, and we can expect issues to come up that we’re incapable of handling on our own. This is the precise time to plead the blood of Jesus and get connected to tremendous power. We live in an impure, spiritually dead world; in spite of this, believing in the power of the blood that Jesus shed for us allows God to give us abundant life. “For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible” (Leviticus 17:11, NLT).

There’s nothing stronger than the blood that God, Himself, shed for us. In the Old Testament, the animal blood sacrifices the priests performed were temporary and were only good for a year; they foreshadowed the coming of Christ. When Jesus came, He was perfect sacrifice, and the last one ever needed to atone for sin. “And from Jesus Christ. He is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the ruler of all the kings of the world. All glory to him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by shedding his blood for us” (Revelation 1:5, NLT).

Sickness and disease have no power over the blood; pleading it in faith over a bad doctor’s report has a way of changing things. There’s no logical explanation for the healing it brings, but it’s nevertheless real and permanent. God operates independently of what the doctors say. “And when Jesus departed thence, two blind men followed him, crying, and saying, Thou son of David, have mercy on us. And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened…” (Matthew 9:27-30). The kind of faith the blind men had still works today.

In a fragmented and divided world, Jesus’ blood unifies and brings peace; pleading it banishes the spirits of strife and anger. Not only does it work on a global level, but also on a personal level; pleading it over toxic relationships restores harmony and balance. “And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven” (Colossians 1:20). This power is unequaled because the blood brings with it the spirit of God’s love.

Jesus modeled how He feels about us in an unmistakable way that commands attention. “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). This was deliberate and intentional. Nothing can defeat us when we speak His blood over anything that comes against us.
